Brittany,
who grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, recalls being interested in
art and photography at a very young age. “When I was really
little I would rather look through a photo album than have a
bedtime story. As I grew older I would take my mother’s old
snapshot camera without her knowing. I would take pictures of just
about anything… the plants in the yard, my dolls, our pet dogs,
and yes… sometimes even my feet!! My habit of sneaking around with
the camera got so out of hand that my mom threatened to make me
pay for the film that I used. After that I slowed down a bit.”
When Brittany was in 8th
grade she saved the money she earned
through babysitting and purchased her first 2 mega pixel digital
camera. “I remember feeling like the luckiest kid on the planet. I
was able to
take as
many pictures as I possibly could, well… as much as I could fit on
my hard drive!!” Soon after Brittany got her first
camera, her
baby cousin Lindsay was born. Brittany took hundreds, maybe
thousands, of pictures of Lindsay, and over time it was apparent
that she had some sort of talent.
She upgraded her
cameras several times between the 8th and 12th
grades. When she purchased her first digital SLR camera her
artistic abilities really began to show through. Brittany began
photographing professionally after the families she babysat for
started taking a serious interest in the pictures she took of
their children. “Before I knew it I was taking pictures
professionally for families while trying to balance the life of an
average senior in High school. I had to schedule sessions around
tests, practices, and swimming and track meets.”

Brittany
is a completely self taught photographer. While her parents don’t
know a lot about how a camera operates or what makes a photograph
artistic they have been a significant source of support. “My
parents have always encouraged me to follow my heart with regards
to my photography passion and business. They have been there for
me 110%. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today
without their
unfailing support”.
Brittany’s
style can be summed up as “clean and simple”. Her favorite form of
photography is black and white. One of the most important
components to Brittany's success in children's photography is her
patience and ability to interact with children. "I have always
found it very easy to communicate and befriend a child... Maybe
it's because I'm still fairly young myself." Brittany, now 18, is
currently a part-time photographer and a full time student
entering her sophomore year of college.
