Amy Phillips

Amy has never been accused of having a lack of enthusiasm. “When I find something that interests me, or that I really believe in, I never let the subject die. I am an advocate, 110%… probably to the extent of driving everyone around me crazy.” And one of the things she feels most passionately about is children’s portrait photography, because it lets her incorporate several of the things she cares most about:

A love of learning. Her entire life, Amy has jumped from one subject to the next, trying to soak it all in. Much of her study has revolved around the visual arts. Photography has always been an interest, and then one day she realized that she wanted to do more than just “snap pictures”; she wanted to learn to create art. So she threw herself into studying and practicing. And she still does, every day. “I love to challenge myself to think outside the box,” she says, “and I try to do this with each session, to create something unique for each family I photograph, something that suits them perfectly.”

A love of family. Many of Amy’s favorite photographs are those that capture the connection in families, between siblings or a child with his parent. And she works to create every portrait to reflect children as they truly are, so that their families will always feel that connection each time they see it. Amy owes much of her happiness in life to her own family, her husband Mike and four-year-old Zachary.

A love of children. Amy loves working with little children, because she feels that they know the right way to live. “I find a lot of joy in capturing the essence of childhood,” she says. “All little ones have something to teach us. They take each day with a contagious laugh, a curious mind, a loving heart, and most of all, a whole lotta soul. I love what I do.”
