Being the daughter and granddaughter of p
hotographers, Heather has
always enjoyed - the art of
photography. Though she didn't receive any technical training until
the birth of her second child, she credits her creative eye
-
to her constant exposure to great
-
photographs.
"I loved looking through family photo
albums, particularly the ones that held everyone's baby photos.
Seeing them taught me what a great photograph should look like,
so once I learned the technical side of
photography it all just fell into place."
- It is because of this, Heather has been told by
- so many that she
has a natural talent.

Heather's goal
with each frame taken is to document what the mother sees
each time she gazes at her child.
Heather loves to
capture the little things that are often overlooked. Plump fat
rolls, itty bitty freckles,
and newborn peach fuzz that will be gone in a matter of weeks.
It is the little
things, Heather believes, that are priceless to a mother now but
will soon be forgotten.
Heather often
hears that is so her!" when parents view their photographs for
the first time and she considers it a compliment when they cry.
She describes her work as "not just capturing what the child
looks like, but what her soul looks like".
- Heather has won
multiple awards in Las Vegas, NV where she lives with her two
children, Tommy (4) and Ashley (2) and her husband Joe, a Las
Vegas City firefighter.

- Editorial Comment: It is clear
to see why the judges chose Heather Vanek's entry as the winning
image for the 3rd Quarter - 2005 IROCP Photography Competition.
It is a natural and emotional image of childhood.
Heather's talent is evident in her photographs. Looking
through her gallery, it evokes emotion such as joy and pride
even when you are not connected to the subject. One can
only imagine how the parents must feel when viewing their
photographs from a session with Heather. The work she
exhibits is exactly what the International Registry of
Children's Photographers is trying to showcase to the clients
who are seeking an exceptional photographer.
